Carry the Load is happening May 29-30 at Reverchon Park in Dallas. This event is meant to bring back the meaning of Memorial Day and raises money for all branches of the military and first responders. It is a 20 hour and 16 minute walk where people walk to remember those people that have lost their lives in service. Raising money is not required to attend and they really just want people to come out and remember. This year there will be a Native American dance team who are also all veterans that will have a performance. Any dancers that would like to join them are welcome. Wicahpi, along with Troop 135 in Lonestar, will be hosting a flag retirement ceremony where people can come lay a section of a flag in the fire as a way to honor people. This will be from 6pm May 29 until 6am on May 30. We would love to have other Mikanakawa members join us. There will be scouts helping in the dining hall, making trash runs, keeping the water and snack stations full and anything else the event people ask of us. You can come for a few hours or stay for the whole time.
If you want to come out and help staff, you need to go to www.carrytheload.org and go to the join a team option. Find BSA Troop 496 and join that team. Ms. Crawford, from Wicahpi/Troop 496, will be there the whole time and will be the adult contact. Everyone should check in with her. By signing up to staff, you will get meal tickets for dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday. Those coming to staff, please bring Ms. Crawford a medical form so she has contact information just in case.
This is a really great event and we hope alot of you will come out at least for a little while.
